As with all things, repairing a thirty year old motorbike is always ... interesting. My throttle cable sheared off at the hand-grip a few weeks ago, and although I bought the new cable, I tend to like oversight when doing any repairs. So my friend Amy came over, and we put the new cable on... but the cable was too short. There's a little bent pipe that the throttle cable goes through before entering the carb, and it was determined that the easiest fix was to find a shorter pipe, or find a work-around. After stumbling around in Creepy Tony's shop for a while, looking for a shorter pipe, he finally just hooked me up with three smaller throttle assembly pipes, which could be stacked and extended or shortened as necessary. So after some fiddling around, we got the throttle to work, adjusted the idle and vroom! My bike runs again.
So last night I went to a party and Creepy Tony was like, "Lemme see that throttle fix" and so I showed him. It's really a ghetto fix, it's as if we'd stacked up a series of nuts for tension between the end of the cable housing and the carb, to create the appropriate tension for the cable. Which, actually, is exactly what it looks like. Creepy said, "Uh, I'm not sure I approve of this repair job, lady." And I said, "Why not? It works!" And then he said, "Oh, well, if it works, then, well, fuck it!"
Which, I've realized in the years I've been riding mopeds, is really the final say in any matter: "Oh, it works? Well then fuck it!"
Next I'm going to take my exhaust pipe off, possibly decarbonize it with a blowtorch, and then spray it matte black with some high-temp engine paint. Yeah. Stealth bomber style.

So last night I got invited to officially join the Hells Satans. There was a ceremony involving jumping my moped through flaming hoops and being doused in Possum blood. It was fucking awesome!!!
