My cat Chet died last night. my neighbor called me at work to let me know that he'd died under one of their bushes. I went home to get his body and take him to the vet, and he was all wet and his eyes were all black and goopy looking, and his mouth was open in this terrible toothy grimace, and when I picked him up he was all stiff, but his belly was all smushy like jello. He smelled terrible, he'd pooped on himself, and he smelled dead and like shit, and yeah, he was dead. I took him to the vet to have him cremated, and i sort of got a little hysterical and I kept apologizing for how bad he smelled and for bringing in my dead cat. I didn't know what else to do.
Then I went to my mom's house, where her dog Elvis had gone into the
carport and dug himself a hole to die in. We took him to the vet and
they put him to sleep. It was much nicer than the way Chet went, and I
was glad that, you know, he had the chance to find some release from
his suffering (he had cancer) and that he was surrounded by people who
loved him. Unlike Chet, who, stubborn to the last, died under a
fucking bush.
